Life Knowledge Lesson Reflection
At Wellsboro, I taught in two animal science classes. I chose to teach my lessons on food labeling. This lesson was based around misleading labels in the food industry. The bell ringer I had for the class was to look up the label on their favorite food. I told them to hang onto their images while we watched a short spoof video on marketing where a quote the kids found interesting was, "all milk is the same but we will put on this "non gmo" sticker and confuse consumers!" We then used their previous image in our activity where they moved around the room based on if it was nutrition, nutrient content, health claims, or farm production label. We then defined each and went over examples. Their small group activity was using if then cards of a product label. They needed to discuss the marketing behind the product. They then had to race to find the "actually" cards. These had the truths of the product and label on it.
I thought overall my lesson went very well. The first class I taught was pretty quiet but they were active. I barely had enough to finish my lesson with this class but we did make it all fit. The second class we got done a few minutes early. Mrs. Berndtson made connections from the previous days class so that way they were busy until the bell. I was very impressed by how my lesson went. For the first time teaching these students they participated very well and there were no major issues with the lesson itself. Teaching this lesson made me very excited to be student teaching here in the fall!

Brooke, engaging students from the beginning of class is key, and it is good to see that you used what you learned about interest approaches to make this happen and set the stage for a successful lesson. Using a timer will not only help you make sure that you allot the correct amount of time for each of your objectives, it will also help you and your students to maintain a consistent classroom routine.
