That's A Wrap

Image
Today is my last day as a student teacher! I truly cannot believe how fast this semester went! I am so extremely glad to done but I really am going to miss my students. This week was a little crazy as it is the week before Christmas AND we had a snow day in the middle of the week. I am honestly surprised how well the students are still engaging in class and not acting as wild as I expected them to be. This semester of student teaching has had so many pros and cons! My absolute favorite part of this experience has by far been the relationships. Students are awesome! I know I have had bad days and days of teaching that just not go well but these kids were always great. I did not think they would barely notice my leaving but so many of them went out of their way to say bye to me, give me cards or gifts and even let me know that they will miss me and joking about me staying. It absolutely melted my heart when I received a card from one of my students saying my teaching style was not ...

Pick One Assignment- Interview

For my "pick one" activity, I chose to complete an interview with Wellsboro School District's superintendent, Dr. Brenda Freeman. This mock interview was so much fun! Dr. Freeman is such a kind lady and gave me an enormous amount of advice and tips when interviewing for a teaching position. I feel as if I was prepared for the majority of the questions she asked. I have already done a few job interviews and previous AEE assignments, so I feel as if these really prepared me for another mock interview. Some of the questions she did ask me were unique and did make me think a little more but I enjoyed this. The interview started by her asking me questions that she would typically ask someone interviewing for any teaching position. After she asked questions, we would discuss them and she told me why they ask specific question and what answers they are looking. One question we discussed a lot was, "What do you do for extracurriculars and have you helped coach or voluntee...

The Count Down is On

This is my last full week of student teaching and I can honestly say my natural resources class is still the toughest! I personally feel I am the weakest in the content knowledge but I do feel I have learned a lot over the course of this semester! I do no need to continue learning and expanding my knowledge of natural resources, especially in forestry. Being with Mrs. B gave me a lot of resources and knowledge since she is extremely knowledgeable in this content area. Classroom management is SO hard! Natural resources is also the class I struggle with this the most still. This class is very rowdy and very inappropriate. They chat and yell out every day, all period long and the majority of it is extremely inappropriate things. I have spent the semester trying a variety of different techniques from calling them out directly, raising my voice, ignoring it and so many more! I believe this is just a tough class. They have been fantastic for teaching me about classroom management and how t...

Grand Canyon FFA Officer Election Process

The requirements to become an officer of the Grand Canyon FFA consist of an application/ contract, two letters of recommendation, and an interview.  I think the application that Mrs. B uses is fantastic. It asks the students general information but then it dives deeper and makes them think. The questions also involve making the applicants realize how important being an officer is and how they must be dedicated. Some of the questions are goals for the chapter, speaking experiences, personal qualities and sae. Something I really liked about this application and election process is that sae projects are also taken into consideration. I have not heard of chapters including this as a major part before but I think it is a great idea. With the contract portion of this, I think it is super important for both the student applicant and student's parents understand the commitment they are making. A contract makes things feel more official and holds students responsible if need be.  ...

SAE Visits

SAE Visit 1 For our first sae visit, we went to a local farm right outside of town and visited our student Kylie. Kylie is a very bubbly senior member who is also an officer of the chapter this year. Her sae is a placement project for raising beef to show at the fair. She is currently raising two Herefords and will pick which one she likes the best to take to fair. Her experience right now is special as she is also involved in school to work so she gets to spend extra time at the farm working with her animals and helping with the other beef cattle. To prepare for this, we asked Kylie when would be an appropriate and good time to visit and then Mrs. B and myself picked a good time that worked for all of us. When we arrived at the farm, we not only got to visit with Kylie, but the gentleman where she houses her animals as well as two of our other students that were there visiting. During the visit, we looked over her animals and had her tell us which one she was leaning towards showing ...

The End is in Sight

It is crazy how fast this semester has went! This week after Thanksgiving is a short week. Then, I only have two more weeks left! This week is one to start wrapping things up in some of my classes as they have some exciting projects to be working on before break! Two of my classes will begin their wreath and green making units next week so I need to wrap up the units we have been learning. Thankfully, timing aligned very well and both of these classes will be wrapping up in perfect time. I am excited to have the opportunity to be with them as they are learning about and complete this greens unit as it is an awesome fundraiser to experience and gain knowledge in for a future chapter. It also though will be very exciting seeing the kids spend so much time doing hands on activities. In my small engines class, I am learning balance. This class has been one of my favorites to be part of this semester and I learned an extreme amount in it about students and small engines! The students in t...

Twas the Week Before Thanksgiving Break

Craziness! I feel like the students were definitely ready for a short break! This week they seemed extra flighty and either overall cranky or over the top peppy! Luckily, it was a short week and we were able to accomplish our tasks! I was hoping to be doing labs in basically all my classes this week but due to getting behind some we prepped for labs more instead this week. Being a short week when the students come back also, it will be a fun week for labs as well.  I was super excited to be taking my slightly difficult natural resource class down town to the bear check station this week. This trip overall went very well. While we were there, we were lucky enough to actually have someone bring a bear in. DCNR and a local game warden, was there to help explain the process and why to our students as the checked over the bear. The students listened well and seemed to enjoy the trip. There were a few that still complained that it was not fun. I asked if they would rather be taking ...
