The Count Down is On
This is my last full week of student teaching and I can honestly say my natural resources class is still the toughest! I personally feel I am the weakest in the content knowledge but I do feel I have learned a lot over the course of this semester! I do no need to continue learning and expanding my knowledge of natural resources, especially in forestry. Being with Mrs. B gave me a lot of resources and knowledge since she is extremely knowledgeable in this content area.
Classroom management is SO hard! Natural resources is also the class I struggle with this the most still. This class is very rowdy and very inappropriate. They chat and yell out every day, all period long and the majority of it is extremely inappropriate things. I have spent the semester trying a variety of different techniques from calling them out directly, raising my voice, ignoring it and so many more! I believe this is just a tough class. They have been fantastic for teaching me about classroom management and how to handle different things.
This week was also a very crazy week as the students and classes were working on their wreath fundraiser! This was so cool to be part of and see first how these wreaths and greens are made and used as a fundraiser but also to see how the students take pride in making these. Plant science class and intro to ag class all spent the week making these products and learning about different Christmas arrangements and how to make them look nice. The freshmen were so excited and involved in these. Even the quieter students really seemed to shine with this unit as it was totally hands on and a completely new experience for them. For the older kids in plant science, it was definitely fun to watch some of the "big, bad athletic" boys really get into making wreaths. One of my favorite comments was, "my mom would be so impressed and surprised I could make this!" That really made me smile and I hope he went home and told his mom about his class that day. This is for sure a unit I would want to try in my future chapter.
This unit, all the classroom management and the crazy memories of students are practices I cannot wait to take with me for my future classroom and teaching career.
